Comprehensive Diagnostic Testing in Williamsburg
ADHD Testing in Williamsburg, VA — Answers, Not Guesswork
Attention problems are easy to live with for years and hard to name. Adults describe it as a career that never quite matched the effort put into it; parents describe homework that takes three hours and shouldn’t take one. The difficulty is that inattention, restlessness, and disorganization are not specific anxiety produces them, depression produces them, poor sleep produces them, and so does ADHD. Treating the wrong one costs time that people rarely have to spare.
Psychometric testing is how that question gets settled. Formal evaluation separates what looks alike, documents what’s actually happening, and gives you something a physician, a school, or an employer can act on.
What We Can Evaluate
- ADHD OCD and Autism in children, adolescents, and adults, including presentations that were missed in childhood
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder and related presentations
- Anxiety and mood disorders that mimic or accompany attention problems
- Learning differences affecting reading, written expression, or math.
- Cognitive functioning memory, processing speed, reaction time, and executive function, using computerized neurocognitive measures
Our Three-Appointment Process
1. Clinical interview. We start with history — developmental, academic, occupational, medical, and family — plus the specific concerns that brought you in. For children and adolescents, parent and teacher input is part of the picture. This appointment is where we determine what the evaluation actually needs to answer.
2. Testing. Standardized instruments and computerized neurocognitive testing, selected for your referral question rather than run as a fixed battery. Most people find the testing session long but straightforward, and there is nothing to study for. Each testing session takes an hour and fee for service clients can schedule multiple hours in a day.
3. Feedback. This is the appointment that makes the process worth doing. We sit down and walk through the findings in plain language — what the scores mean, what they rule out as much as what they rule in, and what the diagnosis does and does not explain about the last ten years.
What You Leave With
A written diagnostic form with clear recommendations: whether counseling is indicated and of what type; whether a follow-up with a prescriber for medication management makes sense; whether further or specialty testing is warranted; and, where relevant, documentation to support academic or workplace accommodations. Fulkl evaluations like those for Autism, will come with a full written report. The point is not the label. The point is knowing what to do next.
Insurance and Cost
Testing can be billed to insurance or paid out of pocket, and we will tell you which is which before you commit. Our office verifies benefits in advance and explains the expected out-of-pocket cost up front — no one should discover the price of an evaluation after it has been completed. This is especially tricky as insurance companies deemed educational testing as not medically necessary and is therefore not cover by insurance.
